If you can afford to buy a new home over a used one, there are many benefits. To list them all would be outside the scope of this short article, so instead, we will focus on our top five reasons. After all, some reasons are much more important than others. When you pay the extra money for a new home, these are the top five reasons to do so.
Whenever you move into a pre-existing home, there will always be one or two features that you would prefer to change, remove, or add. Of course, most people learn to work around that which is not ideal, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a home that is designed specifically around your needs and habits? That thought is probably the number one reason to choose a new home over an older one.
For instance, let’s say your son or daughter is a member of the swim team at school. If they are serious enough about it, you can design your home with an Olympic-style swimming pool. If you work from home and/or own a business, you can create an office space that is custom-tailored for your work.
#2: The Knowledge That Everything Is New
We tried to think of a more succinct way of describing this factor, but this is the best we could do. It is a fact that there is something satisfying about a new home. Knowing that every single component of the house is brand new and has never been used before brings a certain satisfaction (or at the very least, a lot less worry).
With a new home, you don’t have to worry about what the previous occupants may have done in the house. With a pre-existing home, it’s a good idea to start your residency with a thorough cleaning and maybe some maintenance or repair work. A brand-new home, by contrast, requires none of that. Also, there is a more practical side to this factor: No need to worry about fixing anything!
#3: Energy Efficiency
In the past, most home builders didn’t worry a whole lot about energy-efficiency. That’s probably the case because utility bills used to be a lot cheaper. Whether it’s the rising cost of fossil fuels or the greed of the utility companies, we still have to deal with the consequences in the form of higher electric bills.
Thankfully, home builders have done some things to remedy these issues by designing homes that are more energy-efficient than any ever built in the modern age. This might include simple things like well-sealed windows and doors, or more complex things like ventilation systems that circulate the hot and cold air in various ways. Regulators and lawmakers have also done things to push the housing market in this direction.
Either way, it all boils down to one thing: You can reasonably expect that a newer home will always be much more energy-efficient than an older one. This means that you will actually recoup some of the money that you spent on your home through lower electric bills over time.
Safety standards are always evolving and become more strict, and it’s good to have a modern home that complies with all of those regulations. This ensures that you won’t be forced to make costly repairs or modifications to avoid a fine. More importantly, it means that you can rest easy.
If you think about the amount of electricity that flows through the walls of an average home on a day-to-day basis, it’s actually amazing that they all don’t catch fire! Seriously, though, electrical fires are serious business, and they happen all the time.
Let’s look at the most common causes of home fires. When we look at this study, we find that the number one cause is cooking. Heating is number two, with electrical fires being number three. A modern home will be made to the latest fire codes and will be as safe as possible. More importantly, you know that all the wiring, relays, breakers, etc. are completely new and very unlikely to malfunction.
#5: Opportunity To Choose Location
Everyone has an idea about the ideal community in which they would like to live. As we already mentioned, everyone also has an idea about the contents and features of their ideal home. Apart from that, custom home builders know that buyers also like to choose their surroundings carefully. A lot of new homes are built as part of housing communities that are very tight-knit and which have a lot of activities and facilities. These can also be a powerful draw. For instance, a lot of home buyers tend to avoid high-crime areas because nice new homes can become a target for thieves in such areas.
In the end, it is hard to deny that new homes are superior to older homes. While the best older homes were made with the best materials, those are the only ones that have lasted to the present day. It’s easy to think that older homes were better because only the good ones have survived! Still, we should remember that most of those old buildings are gone now, and most of them decayed for good reasons. Of course, it’s also important to remember that you have to choose the best home builders if you want the best results.
